Event Details

With characters like Miles Morales (Spiderman) and Jaime Reyes (Blue Beetle), the Latinx influence in comics are growing, but what about behind the scenes? Latinx creators have been part of the comic industry, creating some of our favorite characters since the 1940s. Yet why don't we hear more about them?

This panel will discuss the growing influence of the Latinx community in comics and animation and who they've been influenced by the industry.

With moderator: Josh Trujillo, known for his work on comic book franchises such as Adventure Time and Rick and Morty, panelists include:

  • Jules Rivera (She/Her), illustrator of the comic strip Mark Trail.
  • Terry Blas (He/Him), Illustrator, and writer behind the webcomic You Say Latino and the ongoing web series Briar Hollow. His work has appeared on comic book covers for Bravest Warriors, Regular Show, The Amazing World of Gumball, Adventure Time with Boom!
  • Julio Anta (He/Him), author of the upcoming graphic novels Home and Frontera
  • Kris Barz Mendonça (He/Him), cartoonist, drag queen, and TedTalk-er
