Program Description

Event Details

Deep Ellum, known for being a premier entertainment destination in Dallas, celebrated its 150-year anniversary as a neighborhood this past year. Deep Ellum was established in 1873 as both a residential and commercial neighborhood, and was one of Dallas’ first commercial districts for African-Americans and European immigrants, making it one of the most historically and culturally significant neighborhoods in the city.

Stephanie Keller Hudiburg, Executive Director, and Cathryn Colcer, Archivist, of the Deep Ellum Foundation will discuss efforts to collect and preserve that history, including the creation of the Deep Ellum Archive in partnership with the Dallas Public Library and the newly created Deep Ellum Community Center and its role in telling the "deep" history of Deep Ellum.

This program is made possible thanks to the Friends of the Dallas Public Library.
