Event Details

Be among the first to view the Smithsonian's traveling Bias Inside Us Exhibit. Plus, hear from Dr. Michael Phillips as he talks about bias as it relates to local media coverage in Dallas' history.

This event will give you the opportunity to learn about bias, how it's affected our past and how it affects our current perceptions. The evening will start with a poem to commemorate the exhibit, by Dallas Poet Laureate, Dr. Mag Gabbert. Drinks will be served.

Dr. Phillips is the Clements Senior Fellow for the Study of Southwestern America, William P. Clements Center for Southwest Studies at Southern Methodist University. He is the author of essays and books about Dallas and Texas history, including White Metropolis: Race, Ethnicity, and Religion in Dallas, which delves deeply into Dallas's racial and religious past and uncovers a complicated history of resistance, collaboration, and assimilation between the city's African American, Mexican American, and Jewish communities and its white power elite.
