February is Black History Month! Join us in celebrating Black history and culture with two take home craft kits.
The first craft kit has all of the supplies you need to make a paper quilt. From being used for communication and navigation to the Underground Railroad to acting as prominent pieces of folk art, quilting has played an important role in African American history and culture. With this kit, you will be able to learn more about this rich history and create a paper quilt of your own!
The second craft kit includes the supplies needed to make a paper weaving, which serves as a representation of kente cloth. Kente is a vibrant cloth that originated among the Asante people in Ghana and was originally worn only by royalty. Today, kente is worn by many different people in the African diaspora and is seen as a representation of African heritage and cultural pride. With this kit, you will be able to delve into the mythology and symbolism behind kente and create your own version using the paper weaving technique.
Supplies are limited and will be available on a first come, first serve basis. The kits are available to be picked up in the children's area.
