Event Details

Celebrate Black History Month and join us in creating our very own community quilt!

Though quilts were not invented by African  Americans, quilts have a deep and rich history among the African American community. African Americans used quilts to share secret messages to travel through the Underground Railroad. While quilting was not a unique making of African American peoples, some of the African traditions transferred to African American quilt making.

Today we will be making our own community quilt reflecting our community and backgrounds that will be available on display at your library. Due to weather concerns this will be a passive program, supplies will be out and available for customers to make a square and leave them with us when you're done.

Supplies:

  • Fabric square
  • Markers

*All supplies are provided but quantities are limited and available on a first-come, first-serve basis.*
Sponsored by the Friends of the Dallas Public Library
