Crafternoon: Community Quilt

Celebrate Black History Month and join us in creating our very own community quilt! 

Though quilts were not invented by African  Americans, quilts have a deep and rich history among the African American community. African Americans used quilts to share secret messages to travel through the Underground Railroad. While quilting was not a unique making of African American peoples, some of the African traditions transferred to African American quilt making. 

Drop by the Skillman Southwestern Branch today and decorate your own quilt square! This is a come and go program, supplies will be left out in the lobby for you to stop by and decorate your square that reflects your community and background. These will all be put together and available on display at your library! 

Supplies:

• Fabric square
• Markers or paint
