Program Description

Event Details

DFW Bookmakers Workshops are designed for people of all backgrounds to come together to learn, create, and share: art techniques and a variety of cultures’ histories in a fun and a safe atmosphere to express oneself.

Today, we will be making a journal using the Japanese art of momigami! Learn the history of Japanese momigami and create, enjoy, and share your workshop experience with other artists!

Momigami, or kneaded paper, is a Japanese papermaking method that has been around for centuries. Traditional Momigami is made by soaking paper in konnyaku starch and kneading it into a ball. For our art journal workshop, we will be using baby oil on a variety of papers such as rice paper, tissue paper, magazines, and book pages to create the paper needed for our journal covers. We will be forming the paper into a ball. Kneading and crumpling the paper fibers together to create a strong, flexible, and fabric-like material. Once the paper is created the participants will be guided by the DFW Bookmakers on how to adhere the paper to their composition books and also decorate their books with stamps and die cuts of Japanese imagery.

All materials will be provided by DFW Bookmakers, and space is limited.  Registration is required!

This workshop is provided by a grant from the City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture.
