What is Diwali? Diwali is a major holiday throughout India and many different religions around India celebrate this holiday. One of the ways this holiday is observed is by lighting small oil lamps known as ‘diyas’ in honor of Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and good fortune. The lamps symbolize the triumph of light over darkness and evil.
