Event Details

Share a special moment with us as we welcome a visit from the "grandmother of Juneteenth", Ms Opal Lee. Ms Lee was born in Marshall, Texas on October 7, 1926 and later moved to Fort Worth at the age of 10. She is a retired teacher, counselor, author and activist in the movement to make Juneteenth a federally-recognized holiday. On June 17, 2021, President Joe Biden signed Senate Bill S. 475, making Juneteenth the eleventh federal holiday. Some of the latest of her many accomplishments include nominee for 2022 Nobel Peace Prize and Fort Worth Inc's Person of the Year.

Her children's book Juneteenth: A Children’s Story originally released in 2019, is aimed at children from grades K-5 and teaches its young audience about the history and significance of Juneteenth in an easily digestible and educational way. Her book will be available for purchase and signing.
