Lakewood Branch Library welcomes Donald Morehart from Legal Aid of Northwest Texas to come present about tenant rights and what you can do if you are facing an eviction.

Here are some questions we will be answering:

  • What is an eviction?
  • Can my landlord refuse to renew my lease?
  • How will I know if I’m going to be evicted?
  • What happens if I don’t leave by the date on the notice to vacate?
  • I’ve been served with the eviction lawsuit. What now?  How can I defend myself in an eviction case?
  • What happens if I ignore the lawsuit?
  • Can a landlord evict me just because I have a disability?
  • Can a landlord evict me for having an unapproved pet?
  • Can a landlord evict someone for misconduct, property damage, or disturbing others?
  • I lost my eviction case (did or did not attend a court hearing). Can I still appeal?

There will be also plenty of time for individual questions as well! Please register for the event to allow resources to be email out after the meeting if available.
