Join the Frank Reaugh Art Club & The Dallas Public Library, Dallas History & Archives division for a birthday celebration of Frank Reaugh and his work. Reaugh, a Dallas artist whose paintings captured early views of the American Southwest, was born December 29, 1860. Fans and friends are invited to come and share Reaugh memories and to hear the latest Reaugh news from club president Bonnie Rea and historian Robert Reitz.
As a special treat, Bob Reitz will be bringing some unique pieces about Frank Reaugh and will be reading excerpts from: a yet-to-be published novelization of the 1920 Reaugh sketch trip, a possible children's book featuring Reaugh, and the opening scene of a one-act play about the great artist. This is the Art Club's “Show and Tell” time where attendees and guests are encouraged to share any information or news about Reaugh's legacy and influence. Light snacks and cupcakes will be available.
Attendees of Reaugh's birthday party are also asked to view the 20 foot O’Hara Room exhibit case, featuring items from the Dallas History & Archives Division’s Frank Reaugh Art Club Collection. Items belonging to and made by Reaugh, including sketches and inventions, and Frank Reaugh Art Club memorabilia will be included. The exhibit will be on view from December 29th through the end of February.
You might also be interested in the 4th Floor display spearheaded by Ed Travis presenting paintings of members of the Association of Traditional Artists through the years.
Objects from the Frank Reaugh Art Club Collection will be on display, and visitors can also view an original Reaugh painting, Scene On the Brazos, that was donated to the Dallas Public Library by Reaugh himself and is on permanent display on the seventh floor of the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library. We encourage those with Reaugh pictures or paintings to please bring your treasures for show and tell!
