Discover why historic newspapers are a genealogy goldmine! In this session, Baerbel K. Johnson, AG®️, demonstrates how newspapers can reveal far more than basic facts—offering clues about names, hometowns, occupations, migration patterns, and surprising stories that bring your family history to life. From obituaries and community announcements to advertisements and social notes, these rich sources often hold the details you didn’t know you were missing for your German ancestor. Get ready for a session that will transform the way you search!

The focus of the German Genealogy Group is researching migrants who immigrated from German-speaking areas of Europe to various parts of the US from the 1700s to the 1900s. Knowledge of the German language is not required - the goal is to help guide your research and provide resources for translating the records. The group is a special interest group of the Dallas Genealogical Society and is freely open to all.
