Juneteenth, also known as Juneteenth Independence Day or Freedom Day, is an American holiday that commemorates the June 19, 1865, announcement of the abolition of slavery in the state of Texas. Come celebrate Juneteenth at the Dallas Public Library with choir performances by the Central Pointe Church of Christ Praise Chorale and the Seasoned Saints Community Choir of Dallas. Witness a modern dance performance by members of the Beckles Dancing Company and learn about the history of the holiday and the importance of celebrating its legacy with a special presentation by Emma Rodgers, of the Civil Rights Museum at the Martin Luther King Jr Community Center. Refreshments and snacks will be served. The celebration is from 1 to 3pm on Saturday, June 16th in the 7th floor O’Hara Hall of the central Dallas Public Library. We hope to see you there!
