Juneteenth Celebration

Celebrate Freedom Day at the Forest Green Branch Library!   

Juneteenth National Independence Day is officially celebrated on the anniversary of June 19, 1865, the date that slavery ended in the United States with the enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas following the end of the Civil War. Since 1866, communities have been gathering to celebrate this historic holiday which became federally recognized in 2021.  

This year, the library will be hosting a festival to commemorate this important holiday. This event will feature the following: 

• Dance and musical performances 

  • Obiora Asiama at 11:15 a.m.

  • South Dallas Concert Choir at 12:15 p.m. 

• Vendors and local shops

  • Authors/Book Shops: Tatiana Obey, Redmon Books, Kaylon Williams

  • Jewelry: MAD Kreations

  • Home Goods/Stationery: From Gwen's Heart, A Scent of Serendipity, Pineapple Sundays

  • Beauty: PLOC Shop

  • Art: Beauty Beyond the Canvas

• Food 

  • Cake Me Crazy

• Juneteenth Crafts 

  • Materials provided while supplies last

This event will be outside and indoors. Check this event out and learn something historic, support local businesses, discover your new favorite artist and connect with your community.
