Turn your creative ideas into a published poem with the 25th Annual Express Yourself! Youth Poetry Competition

Spark your imagination with teaching artists from The Writer's Garret. Learn about the various forms of poetry and start working on your own creation to submit to the competition. The published page awaits!

Students in grades 2-12 who live within the City of Dallas limits or attend a Dallas school are invited to submit  original poems to be judged by Dallas Public Library staff and members of the community. 60 finalists will be published in the 25th Annual Finalists' Anthology. All finalists will be invited to the Award Ceremony in April 2021 where the winners of the Joe M. and Doris Russell Dealey Award of Achievement and three Grade Category Winners will be announced.

Sponsored by the Joe M. and Doris R. Dealey Family Foundation and the Friends of the Dallas Public Library
