Plotting (Historic) Death in Dallas

The Dallas Death Map Project, a joint project involving UTA Special Collections and Research Data Services, was created out of a need for a comprehensive resource of deaths that occurred in Dallas. Deaths that occurred in hospitals and care homes are expected and typically well-documented, but deaths that occurred outside of those institutions--in private homes, in hotels, in parks, and in other locations--can be difficult to research. There was a clear need for an accessible database that would allow researchers to see where deaths occurred without paying expensive fees or sifting through thousands of records.

UTA Special Collections Archivist Priscilla Escobedo will demonstrate features of the interactive map, explain how the data is compiled, researched and verified, and how the map can be used for YOUR genealogy research. 

Priscilla Escobedo is the Special Collections Archivist at the UTA Special Collections. She is a graduate of Baylor University and UNT. She is a board member of the Dallas Mexican-American Historical League,  Historians Of Latino Americans (HOLA) Tarrant County, and member of the Dallas County Historical Commission. Much of her work centers on preserving and presenting the history of BIPOC communities and people of North Texas. In her free time she reads, tries new restaurants and recipes, and visits museums.
