Out-of-School Time/Summer ReadingProgram Description
Event Details
Designed for children 7 - 15 years old
The instructor will lead the children in a brief affirming discussion. Then the children will be asked to draw a silhouette of themselves and then write different characteristics (from a provided list of guide words) or things they believe about themselves inside the silhouette and then the children will color or create designs around the images so they can hang them or display them at home.
Learning outcomes for the children will be to encourage self esteem and self awareness. The instructor will also encourage the children to see good in others by having them share something good they see in the other children.
Physical attributes are not the only things the instructor will emphasize but to teach children to build their character, internal qualities, and personality traits. The instructor will share her screen to show a video appropriate to the discussion.
Self awareness is the ability to focus on yourself and how your actions, thoughts, or emotions do or don't align with what you feel inside. Being self aware can build confidence or self esteem when you have an objective opinion of who you are and how you perceive others to see you. We want to fight against our "self critic".
