Today, we have more clothing than we know what to do with. Hundreds of new pieces are created daily, and old ones end up in landfills. This wasn’t always a problem, so what’s changed?
Clothing no longer takes the time and expertise it used to.
Before the Spinning Jenny, professional knitting looms and sewing machines, each strand had to be woven together by hand. The Dallas Handweavers and Spinners Guild will demonstrate how fibers are spun and turned into cloth, the old-fashioned way.
This program is a collaboration between the Movie, Music & Art and the Genealogy & History divisions of the Dallas Public Library.
