It's the week you've been waiting for: Spring Break! We've got a lot of ways to relax and have fun at the library: explore outer space, compete in a Switch championship, make art, meet exotic animals, see a movie, check out a fire truck - and maybe even learn something new. (Don't worry - we won't tell!)

 

Spring Break Around the World

Monday, March 11 through Friday, March 15 at 11:30 a.m., White Rock Hills Branch

Take your spring break vacation at the library! During Spring Break week you’ll learn about five popular tourist spots from around the world, craft a souvenir and create your own passport to get stamped for every day you participate! Registration is required.

Daily Destination schedule:

  • Monday: Hawaii
  • Tuesday: Thailand
  • Wednesday: France
  • Thursday: Egypt
  • Friday: Brazil

 

Magic Tree House Spring Break Series

Monday, March 11 through Friday, March 15 at 2 p.m., Lakewood Branch

Inspired by the “Magic Tree House” books by Mary Pope Osborne, this special series is designed to transport young readers into a world of imagination and exploration. Each day, we'll dive into a different time period or location, just like Jack and Annie do in the books, with exciting activities and adventures that mirror their quests. From the time of the dinosaurs to the heart of the Renaissance, we'll bring the stories of Jack and Annie to life. Registration is required.

  • Wednesday- Pirates Past Noon
  • Thursday- Dinosaurs Before Dark
  • Friday- Ghost Town at Sundown

 

An Out-of-this-World Spring Break

Monday, March 11 through Friday, March 15 at 2 p.m., Lochwood Branch

Join us for some out-of-this-world fun during spring break! Monday through Friday we'll be exploring outer space through different activities and fun lessons! Registration is recommended.

Schedule:

  • Monday:  Marshmallows Stars Make the Tastiest Constellations
  • Tuesday: Create the Milky Way in Galaxy Slime
  • Wednesday: Building a Solar System with Coffee Filter Planets
  • Thursday: Going Round in Circles as We Build Orbits
  • Friday: Rockets to the Moon (with an expert guest to get us off the ground)

 

Spring Break: Switch Tournament

Monday, March 11 through Friday, March 15 at 2:30 p.m., White Rock Hills Branch

Show off your drifting and driving skills at our Spring Break Switch Tournament. Teens will earn points for attendance and matches won. The top three players with the most points will win prizes! Registration is required.

 

Spring Break Adventure: Super Hero Camp

Tuesday, March 12 through Saturday, March 16 at 1 p.m.,Vickery Park Branch

Welcome to the Superhero Spring Camp, where young heroes-to-be gather to discover and develop their extraordinary abilities! As the flowers bloom and the days grow longer, it's the perfect time for aspiring superheroes to harness the power of spring and embark on an adventure of a lifetime.
Space is limited! Registration is required! 
This program is best for ages 8+

Delve into the world of Sherlock Holmes! We will do hands-on experiments to learn techniques that the world’s most famous (fictional) detective used to solve his cases. Suggested ages: 6-11 years old.

 

Spring Break Series: Musical Pet Parade!

Monday, March 11 at noon, Prairie Creek Branch

Join the Cliburn and Heart of Texas Therapy Dogs for an animal-themed music program!

 

Afternoon Chalk Art

Monday, March 11 at 1 p.m., Park Forest Branch

Create some cool chalk art designs on the sidewalks outside the library (if the weather allows). All supplies provided.  All ages welcome.

 

Fly High with the Birds of Prey

Monday, March 11 at 2 p.m., Timberglen Branch

Education specialists from the Blackland Prairie Raptor Center will bring hawks, owls and falcons and discuss these animals’ roles in the environment, how they adapt, hunt and more. Live animals will be present at this event.  Geared to ages 6 and up.

 

Spring Break Super Snack

Tuesday, March 12 and Thursday, March 14 at 3:30 p.m., Pleasant Grove Branch

Refuel during Spring Break with a free nutritious super snack for ages 1-18. Meals are made possible through the Texas Department of Agriculture’s Child and Education PV.

Hack my painting

Are you ready to embark on a creative journey and transform an already finished painting into a masterpiece that's uniquely your own? Choose from a selection of finished paintings, then, armed with a variety of painting supplies, transform the painting in your own style! 

 

Spring Break: Build-a-Buddy Workshop

Stuff and dress your own reading buddy in our stuffed animal workshop. While supplies last!

National Crafting Month for Kids: Sewing

Celebrate National Crafting Month by learning a new craft! Come learn the basics of hand sewing while creating your own hand puppet. All supplies will be provided. For kids aged 8 & Up. Registration is required.

 

SLIME for Spring Break

Get messy with us and make some clear slime! Don't worry, grownups, we'll also provide containers with lids to keep the slime from going where it doesn't belong.

 

Spring Break Movie Matinee - The Super Mario Bros. Movie

Tuesday, March 12 at 2 p.m., Oak Lawn Branch

Dive into a pixel-perfect adventure this spring break with everyone's favorite plumber duo! Join Mario and Luigi on a wild journey through the Mushroom Kingdom in the Super Mario Bros. movie. Grab your power-ups and warp pipes, and get ready for a blockbuster gaming experience on the big screen! Registration is required.

 

Wild at the Library: Animals in flight!

Tuesday, March 12 at 2 p.m., Pleasant Grove Branch  

Learn a bit about birds in flight around Dallas while making our very own bird feeders! All supplies will be included and you can take home your creations.

Wild at the Library: Slithering Creatures!

This spring break, level up your vacation with the ultimate gaming experience. We're opening our doors to school-age and teen gamers for a free play session featuring an exciting lineup of Nintendo Switch games. There's no need to bring your own equipment or games.
