Program Description

Event Details

In this special storytime event, we will read the book My Heart Fills with Happiness by Monique Gray Smith in a unique performance that incorporates Indian classical dance as a form of storytelling.

Expressing a story using hands, face, and eyes is a key component of Indian classical dance, and the motor skills we learn as toddlers and preschoolers. You and your little one will learn new storytelling movements and get to watch a story unfold through Indian classical dance.

We have partnered with local occupational therapist and classical Indian dancer Gargi Sukhatankar to bring this one-of-a-kind storytime to the library. This storytime is designed to enhance children's social skills and fine motor skills, and increase focus and attention.

A note from our program partner, Gargi:

Hi parents,

I’m a Registered pediatric Occupational therapist, Registered yoga teacher and also a classical Indian dancer.

I am passionate about all three disciplines. Through this dance and storytelling activity my goal is to enhance kids’ social skills ( using facial expressions), fine motor skills ( using hand gestures) and increase focus and attention through the use of listening and putting the story together with their body, mind and face. In addition they will learn about new cultures and art forms.

I look forward to having you joining us in this new adventure.
