Part of the difficulty of learning about systemic injustice in society is seeing how your own identities have played a part in the dehumanization of others. It has been a difficult process, learning how I and those of the Christian faith have used the very texts that helped form who we are to lessen the value of those we have been taught to identify as ‘other’.

Too often, having faith and treating ‘other’s with dignity are thought of as mutually exclusive. We are taught in our respective mainstreams that those with faith cannot be compassionate, and those without do not deserve compassion.

But part of having faith is having hope. This series is my expression of hope that we will come to see each other as neighbors; as people who give and receive grace not because we are deserving, but because it is good.
