Celebrate Juneteenth with a special guest lecture by Shomari Wills, author of Black Fortunes: The Story of the First Six African Americans Who Escaped Slavery and Became Millionaires.
Black Fortunes provides detailed biographies of African-Americans who overcame the obstacles of enslavement, racism and poverty to build wealth, create philanthropic organizations, and mobilize political activism. These biographies include cosmetic businesswoman Madam CJ Walker and O.W. Gurley one of the founders of the "Black Wall Street" neighborhood in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
This event will be a commemoration of the Centennial of the Tulsa "Black Wall Street" Massacre.
