Adult "Art Class" Talavera Tiles

Adult "Art Class" is our recurring art program that will teach a new technique or art form at the most basic level. This month we are learning about the Talavera tiles. Talavera tile is a type of tin-glazed earthenware that originated in Mexico in the 16th century. The tradition of Talavera tile is rooted in Spanish and Mexican heritage, and it features a blend of indigenous Mexican imagery with Spanish methods and motifs. The city of Talavera de la Reina in Spain was famous for its pottery, and Mexican craftsmen adapted this tradition to create their own unique style of ceramics. We will be imitating this art form and making our own tile coasters.
