Program Description

Event Details

Criminals in the Family Tree explores how brushes with the law can surface in genealogical research and what those discoveries can reveal about our ancestors’ lives and the times in which they lived. Drawing on decades of experience in libraries, archives, and the genealogy industry, genealogist Kim Harrison will discuss the kinds of records that may point to criminal activity, how to approach sensitive or surprising findings, and ways these stories can add depth and context to family histories. This program offers a thoughtful look at an often-overlooked aspect of the past and how researchers can responsibly interpret and incorporate it into their work.

This Genealogy & History program is brought to you in part by the Friends of the Dallas Public Library and General Levi Casey Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and is available both in-person at the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library, 8th floor AND online via Zoom. Register below for either option!
