Event Details

The Cherokee War of 1776 collided with the beginning of the American Revolution.  Cherokee attacks aligned with the British-launched attacks on encroaching settlers in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia.  As North American colonists fought for their independence from Great Britain, indigenous Cherokee people also contended for their land and independence from outside rule and colonial expansion.

Author Dr. David Narrett will discuss this pivotal time in North American history and the broader history of the Cherokee tribes from his book The Cherokees: In War and at Peace.

David Narrett is the author of Adventurism and Empire: The Struggle for Mastery in the Louisiana-Florida Borderlands and Inheritance and Family Life in Colonial New York City. He is Professor Emeritus of History at the University of Texas at Arlington.
