Discuss the NEA Big Read book In to the Beautiful North by Luis Alberto Urrea. Enjoy conchas (Mexican sweet bread) and cafe (coffee) during the event.

The book is a story about a besieged Mexican village without any men and a group of young women who go to the United States looking for defenders, learning truths about themselves along the way. The book depicts the contradictions of the US-Mexico border, the blending of cultures and economies as well as the division between countries.
