Celebrate Black History Month with a screening of the 1991 film, Daughters of the Dust. The film screening will be followed by a discussion of the film and its cultural significance. The discussion will be facilitated by Dr. Lauren Cross, an interdisciplinary artist, curator, and scholar.
Daughters of the Dust, directed by Julie Dash, was the first feature film directed by a Black woman to be distributed theatrically in the U.S. It was also part of the inspiration for Beyoncé’s visual album Lemonade.
This screening was made possible through the generous support of the Friends of the Dallas Public Library.
