Celebrate Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights!
We are packing this 5-day celebration into one fun-filled event! Though Diwali is on October 24th we want to celebrate with you with this mini-festival!
What is Diwali? Diwali is a major holiday throughout India and many different religions around India celebrate this holiday. One of the ways this holiday is observed is by lighting small oil lamps known as ‘diyas’ in honor of Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and good fortune. The lamps symbolize the triumph of light over darkness and evil.
Let's celebrate Diwali with music, dance, crafts, and community!
We will have:
- Crafts!
- Supplies provided, while supplies last!
- Henna
- Dance and musical performances
- Sari/Saree wrap station (try on a Sari!)
- Storytime on the story of Diwali
- The story will be told in English, Telugu, and Hindi
- English and Telugu at 10:30 a.m.
- Hindi and English at 12:30 p.m.
- The story will be told in English, Telugu, and Hindi
- Vendors
- Food
This event will be outdoors and inside, spread around to encourage social distancing practices. Standard precautions will be advised, such as wearing a mask, social distancing, and sanitizing hands and craft area. This event is supported in part by the Association of Asian American City Employees (AAACE) and the Friends of the Dallas Public Library!
