New or experienced sewer? We will have a brief overview of our classroom set of sewing machines before stepping into creating our very own reusable coffee cup sleeve warmers. There are many fun and funky craft squares to choose from!
Trivia Fact: Not one man is held in recognition of the invention of the coffee sleeve. The two men who are recognized to have contributed to the current designs used in most coffee shops and gas stations are Jay Sorenson (who created his design in 1989 and filed for a patent for it in 1993) and Jim Chelossi (who created his design in the late 1980's and filed for a patent for it in October of 1995). Jim was in Belmont, California and Jay in Portland, Oregon. Earlier designs are also accredited as early as 1925. James A. Pipkin designed a sleeve for cold glass bottles in 1925. In 1947, Edward R. Egger patented a “portable coaster” that fit around a cup.
