Program Description

Event Details

Celebrate your freedom to read by learning about the right to read and literacy education in Dallas. Reading is fundamental to democracy and early literacy is essential to lifelong success, which is why having the right to read is so important.

Join City Teaching Alliance for a screening of The Right to Read. This popular documentary affirms reading as a fundamental civil right, emphasizing phonics-based instruction for all students. The film documents the efforts of families, teachers, and advocates across various states in their struggle for their children’s right to read.

The morning will start with refreshments, followed by the movie screening. The day will end with a panel discussion.

Oct. 19 is a Freedom to Read Community Day of Action, in partnership with Unite Against Banned Books, in collaboration with libraries and advocates nationwide.

City Teaching Alliance is a nonprofit organization that aims to improve educational outcomes for children in urban schools by preparing excellent career educators that can accelerate student achievement
