Have you always wanted to dance, but never had the right time, place, or opportunity? Are you looking to find a pleasant date night activity for yourself and your significant other?
If the answer to any of those questions is yes, then we have great news for you. This summer the Bachman Lake Library will be hosting a free two-hour workshop where participants will learn the basics of flamenco dancing. Our instructors will be the staff of Flamenco Fever, the esteemed dance organization that has been bringing the magic of flamenco to North Texas since 1998 and established the annual Oak Cliff Flamenco Festival in 2014.
This workshop will include:
- A brief overview of the history of flamenco music and dancing.
- A demonstration from our instructor, the illustrious Julia Alcantara
- The fundamentals of body posture, arm movement, rhythm, footwork, and the use of palmas, the traditional instrument used for making the signature clapping sound.
- While you're welcome to bring a partner, you need not have one to enjoy this workshop.
This program is made possible through the City of Dallas' Office of Arts and Culture.
