Visit the Lancaster Kiest branch for Rag Rugs Assembly. Rag Rugs were born out of a necessity to use every scrap of tattered cloth and thread to prevent waste. These assorted strands and swatches of fiber were transformed into "new fabric", threads, cords and ropes by using well known techniques in the textile industry. In addition to weaving and piece quilting, many crafters began hand spinning to form rag ropes. This method of rag rug wrapping will be the focus of this 3-hour mini workshop. Participants will learn the art of coiling to create 2 circular rag rug wrapped coils. They will keep one coil to share with family and friends. The other coil will become part of a larger framed collaborative assemblage.
