Grab your eyepatches and cutlasses and join the Secret Society of Children's Books as we feature an early edition of “Howard Pyle’s Book of Pirates”. Howard Pyle created the iconic image of pirates we see today in books and films like Pirates of Caribbean. Famous for his retellings of such legends as Robin Hood and King Arthur, Pyle was also a talented illustrator and taught eminent children illustrators N.C. Wyeth and Maxfield Parrish. View the large format edition along with other early editions of Howard Pyle’s books. Listen to readings from the book and learn about pirate life as the Victorian Fencing Society gives a demonstration of naval cutlass swordfighting. The Secret Society of Children’s Books is a bi-monthly lecture series that features a particular historical item from the Dallas Public Library’s Siddie Joe Johnson Children’s Literature Collection. For more information contact Jonathan Carr at jonathan.carr@dallascityhall.com
