"Trying" is based on the true story of the author's experience during 1967-1968 when she worked for Judge Francis Biddle. The Judge had been Attorney General under Franklin Roosevelt and, after the war, he was named Chief Judge of the American Military Tribunal at Nuremberg. "Trying" is the story of a young Canadian girl and an old Philadelphia aristocrat as they try to understand each other. He is convinced that he has forgotten more in the last year then she has learned in her twenty-five years of living.
