Greetings fans of everything speculative and other-worldly!
This will be the second meeting of our new Sci-Fi & Fantasy Book Club, Wizards and Time Machines. This is a club dedicated to everything involving aliens, dragons, and whatever other creatures or humanoids fall into the speculative fiction genres. On the first Thursday of each month, we will aim to read diverse authors, old and new, and chat about what we loved and hated about their stories!
For October, we're reading The Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler.
"Lauren Olamina and her family live in one of the only safe neighborhoods remaining on the outskirts of Los Angeles. Behind the walls of their defended enclave, Lauren’s father, a preacher, and a handful of other citizens try to salvage what remains of a culture that has been destroyed. While her father tries to lead people on the righteous path, Lauren struggles with hyperempathy, a condition that makes her extraordinarily sensitive to the pain of others."
The book is available as an ebook through the Hoopla service, which can be found here:

An active Dallas Public Library card is required to use Hoopla.
If you have any trouble finding/accessing the book, please reach out to Rudy at rudolph.rihner@dallascityhall.com.
