Iv’s workshops delve into the traditional “movement rites” young girls experience in indigenous cultures such as the Krobo tribe of Western Ghana, Bat Mitzvahs, and Quinceaneras. Girls learn the magic of their own history amongst world cultures and how the components of dance culturally signify: a young woman gaining mastery of her body, understanding how movement matures alongside the body in a cultural context, and how dance continues to act as a social mirror even in modern times. The culmination of this series allows girls the opportunity to perform traditional rites of passage dances for their families and community.
