Tracing your family history can be difficult, particularly when you don't know where to start! Esther Camacho, librarian and professional genealogist, will demonstrate the types of records used to trace ancestors from the United States into Mexico. Learn about the breadth of information available for genealogy researchers including census, border crossing records, immigration, civil records, and church records.

Esther Camacho has been active in genealogical research for over 35 years and is also a south Texas librarian and historical researcher. She holds a BA in English from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and a Master of Library Science from Texas Woman’s University.

Esther has given genealogy and local history presentations to various civic organizations and genealogical groups. She has  presented, “Hispanic Genealogy for Non-Spanish Speaking Researchers” at the 2019 Texas State Genealogical Conference Library Association Conference in Houston, Texas; “Finding Your Ancestors in Mexico” at the 2019 19th Annual Genealogy Lock-In organized by the Waco-McLennan County Library; and “Inside the Gates: Hidalgo Cemetery 1884” at Quinta Mazatlan World Birding Center in McAllen, Texas.

She is a current member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, the Texas State Genealogical Society, the Hidalgo County Historical Commission, and an honorary member of the Las Villas del Norte genealogy group. Her primary focus is U. S. and Hispanic genealogy, and cemetery research.
