Join the Dallas History & Archives Division at the Central Public Library for an exhibit talk, hosted by Donald Payton, Genealogist, and discuss Pittman's legacy and biography in Dallas. Then, a discussion about Pittman's architecture. Part of the exhibit talk will be about Pittman's contemporary legacy. For those Dallas transplants, his struggles are our pains as well, and highlighting how today's society should view his memory is an important take-away from this program. Afterwards, moving to Stone for further discussion with Professor Clarence E. Glover, Jr. "aka Professor Freedom".
Professor Clarence E. Glover, Jr will explore the life, education, work and civic involvement of William Sidney Pittman in Dallas, Texas through the African lens of the Sankofa principle. Sankofa is a Ghana West African principle of the Akan people that states, "it is not taboo to reach back and fetch what you left behind." At a time time when the life of Mr.Pittman's is being revisited in a variety of positive venues in Dallas, Professor Glover will connect these events in light of the history that diminished his intellectual genius and architectural contributions. while exploring the social tension that resulted in his life being reduced to historical obscurity as a new pride is being resurrected reflecting his life and work.
