Here are some headlines you might have seen recently: “Pothole pains after Deep Freeze.”, “Birds and bats found dead after Below Zero Temps.”, “Nearly 4 million people in Texas without power as temperatures dip.” Join Susan Alvarez, Assistant Director for the Office of Environmental Quality and Sustainability and Katy Evans, Climate Coordinator, as they talk about how the City of Dallas has consistently provided leadership for climate action and is moving ahead with its commitments through the Comprehensive Environmental Climate Action Plan (CECAP).

Hear about Dallas efforts to move forward on implementing the 97 actions in this 30-year plan with 48 in progress for this year. We can mitigate climate change, take the steps with us.

Susan G. Alvarez, PE, CFM is serving as the Assistant Director of the City of Dallas Office of Environmental Quality & Sustainability.  She has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, with a minor in geology from Rice University, and postgraduate work in water resources.   She is a Registered Professional Engineer in Texas and five other western states, and is also certified as a Certified Floodplain Manager, and Master She is currently focused on the Comprehensive Environmental & Climate Action Plan, and the City’s environmental outreach efforts.

Katy Evans is a Climate Coordinator for the City of Dallas where she works on implementing the city’s Comprehensive Environmental and Climate Action Plan. Katy earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s in Public Health from the University of Florida, during which time she also worked to reduce environmental health risks to infants and children in Jacksonville, Florida. During her free time, Katy volunteers as a mentor in the Dallas Independent School District and enjoys exploring North Texas on her bicycle.

 

Earth Day Every Day is a series of online environmental education sessions continuing with the Earth Day theme and bringing expert speakers, special program topics, and a reminder that every day is Earth Day. Presented by Dallas Environmental Quality and Sustainability (DEQS; Green Dallas).  These topics empower Dallas residents to make sustainable choices that improve the quality of life for everyone in Dallas and the world.
