Earth Day Every Day! - Living with Our Wild Neighbors

If you see something fly by or notice a track in the mud, you might wonder, “What is that?”  Find out exactly what it is from Sam Kieschnick, an urban biologist who knows everything about the wild world tucked near or between our neighborhoods. Wildlife lives among us quietly or sometimes, the animal can be more obvious, like the raccoon that chews through your home’s eaves.  Sam makes us more comfortable about it all and talks about animal I.D. Whether he is in the Rio Grande Valley surveying insects or looking at animal tracks along the Trinity River, he will share about his field work and provide an abundance of helpful facts.

Sam Kieschnick is an urban wildlife biologist with Texas Parks & Wildlife serving the east side of the DFW metroplex.  He previously worked as a nature educator with the City of Mansfield at Oliver Nature Park, as a naturalist at the Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge, as a science interpreter with the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, as a botanist with BRIT, and as an instructor at Weatherford College.  He has a master’s degree from Tarleton State University studying the genetics of pocket gophers.  As an urban wildlife biologist, Sam’s focus will be on three a’s: awareness, appreciation, and action.

Earth Day Every Day is a series of online environmental education sessions continuing with the Earth Day theme and bringing expert speakers, special program topics, and a reminder that every day is Earth Day. Presented by Dallas Environmental Quality and Sustainability (DEQS; Green Dallas).  These topics empower Dallas residents to make sustainable choices that improve the quality of life for everyone in Dallas and the world.
