Join us for this free, 8-week program that will include subject matter information, recipe demonstrations, and physical activity that will help you initiate and take on a more healthy life. Materials will be available in English and Spanish with a bilingual instructor. Below is an outline of the various classes and topics throughout the 8-week session:

  1. Welcome to EFNEP: Healthy Foods, Healthy Families (June 6th):  Participants will learn about the mission of the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP), My Plate, portion sizes, and the importance of physical activity for good health.
  2. Food that Pack a Punch (June 13th):  Participants will learn the importance about MY Plate key messages and the plate method for portion control.
  3. Making the Most of My Plate (June 13th):  Participants will learn the importance of fruits, vegetables, and dairy for improved diet quality and discuss ways to increase consumption of these foods. Participants will also learn the importance of breakfast especially for their children.
  4. The Power of Planning (June 20th):  Participants will learn to plan family meals, create a grocery List, and compare prices when purchasing foods.
  5. Setting your Limits (June 27th):  Participants will learn to use the Nutrition Facts Panel when purchasing foods low in sodium, saturated and Trans fat (also called solid fats), and added sugar.
  6. Plate it Safe (July 11th):  Participants will learn strategies for keeping food safe and reducing their family’s risk of foodborne illness.
  7. Mealtime Miracles (July 18th):  Participants will learn the Responsibilities between parents and children at meal times.
  8. The Choice Is Yours (July 25th): Participants will review concepts learned over the course of the series, discuss weight management strategies, celebrate successes, and set goals.

To receive a certificate, you must attend at least 6 of the classes. To receive a certificate and an informational bag, you must attend all 8 sessions.
