Join the discussion of Romance novels & Feminism with these professional romance readers. Melody Carlisle, host of the nationally acclaimed romance podcast Heaving Bosoms Podcast, will lead the discussion with:

  • Leah Koch, co-owner of the first-ever all romance bookstore The Ripped Bodice
  • Professor Jayashree Kamblé, Professor of English at LaGuardia Community College
  • Nisha Sharma, author of Dating Dr. Dil, coming out March 15!

Exceeding $1Billion in sales every year, romance novels are about 20% of all book sales, with the average romance reader reading 2 to 3 books a week. Despite numbers like these, it is still a genre that evokes shame and is often thought of as anti-feminist or contributing to the heteronormative patriarchy.

Romance novels are a genre made for women, telling their stories, depicting women as equals, and supporting their needs and desires. Why wouldn't they be considered feminists?

This program is online-only, and questions will be taken in advance; questions during the conversation are not guaranteed to be answered. The link to the Zoom meeting will be sent out the DAY OF the program, about 2hrs before the start.

This program is brought to by and with thanks to the Friends of the Dallas Public Library and in a collaborative partnership with SMU supporting the kick off week of the Dallas Literary Festival from March 18 to 22, 2022. Click here for more programs related to the Dallas Literary Festival
