The Boy Actor and Modern Gender-Wacky Shakespeare
Shakespeare’s company didn’t raise a fuss about boys wearing girls’ clothing: in fact, it was the norm on the 16th century English stage. Bare Bones Shakespeare enjoys taking this freedom of gender expression and raising it by an order of magnitude… or three. Teaching artists from Bare Bones Shakespeare will perform gender-swapped and gender-ambiguous scenes and monologues, and encourage brave audience members to do the same in this 2-hour workshop.
Teaching Artists:
Julia Gayden Nelson holds an MLitt and an MFA from Mary Baldwin University's Shakespeare & Performance program. She started Bare Bones Shakespeare in 2015 and holds the title of Artistic Director. In BBS's current production of Julius Caesar, she works as Director and Text Coach for the company.
John E. Masters has been a company member since 2016. Interested in absolutely everything, Masters ranges from "dabbler" to "expert" in too many fields to enumerate. In BBS's current production of Julius Caesar, Masters works as Fight Choreographer as well as holding the roles of Brutus, Citizen, and Calpurnia.
Abigail Bouska is brand-new to Bare Bones Shakespeare. A dance instructor by day, Abigail is also an accomplished musician about to release her first album. In our current production of Julius Caesar, Abigail works as Assistant Stage Manager, as well as holding the roles of Caesar, Citizen, Calpurnia, Strato, and Pindarus.
