The artist, Curtis Derall Ferguson, attempts to capture the innocence of three Black boys enjoying reading. There are many stereotypes that suggest that Black boys especially do not like to read and this contributes to low test scores, negative behavioral issues, and the high school to prison pipeline.
Some statistics will prove this to be true. So what do we do? Images can shape your reality and sometimes life can imitate art. The artist wants to put a positive vision of Black boys into the universe.
