Learn about the DeLoach Urban Agriculture Center and its mission to promote urban agriculture and fight food insecurity from executive Directer of the FAWS Conservatory of Arts and Science, Coy Poitier.

Coy Poitier (/’pwa:tier/) is a successful and passionate community leader, award-winning film director, urban agricultural consultant, musician, motivational speaker, and certified master gardener. In 2007 Coy moved to Dallas County with his wife and children to assist in his mother’s church as Minister of Music and Christian Education Director. In 2014, Coy became the executive director of FAWC Conservatory of Arts and Sciences and their mission is to promote creative youth and young adult development by linking arts and science education, training and interpretive experiences with building personal, social, and intellectual capacities needed to succeed in school, career, and life.

Poitier is a graduate of the 2020 Texas A&M AgriLife Extension’s Master Gardener program and a member of the Dallas County Master Gardener Association. He is also certified in native landscape, food management, National Geographic Educator, and has other urban agriculture certifications.

In 2021 Coy and FAWC Conservatory’s team dedicated its farm to its founders, Roy and Carolyn DeLoach. At DeLoach Urban Agricultural Center, the community gets hands on experience on how to grow food, maintain a small garden, and more.

In January 2022, Coy was elected to the USDA's Farm Service Agency (FSA) Dallas Urban County Committee and serves as board chairman. The Dallas Urban County Committee works to encourage and promote urban, indoor, and other emerging agricultural production practices.

He also serves on the Dallas County Historical Commission, Baylor Scott & White- Resident Advisory Council, Dallas C.E.R.T., and Dallas County Medical Reserves Corps.

Coy is a former board member with the Mayor’s Task Force on Confederate Monuments, South Dallas Fair Park Trust Fund Board, City of Lancaster Texas Parks and Recreation Board, and City of Lancaster Texas Tree Board.
