Don't duck out on this presentation about feathered urban livestock. Flock to this program and meet Ryan Giesecke who raises chickens, pigeons, ducks and quail in Dallas. In this talk Ryan will these birds as potentially urban-friendly poultry projects. While these may not all be viable options for everyone, he will explore pros and cons and feasibility of each. Chickens will provide the starting point, and will introduce concepts that will carry through into our discussion of the other birds. You will learn some interesting facts about all four species, and evaluate each for egg production, meat production, educational value of the experience, and also for their potential pet qualities.
Ryan owns and operates G-Bar Naturals, an educationally-centered homestead project located in East Dallas. From there he offers a variety of homegrown products and learning opportunities, as well as performing bee-friendly removals of honey bees and bumble bees as “Honey Bee Relocation Services”. Ryan is the President of Trinity Valley Beekeepers Association, a Texas Master Beekeeper, and has taught classes on bees at several area colleges. He participated in Texas Master Naturalist training in 2018. Ryan was raised in a ranching family, and finding a way to balance his agricultural roots with claiming Dallas as home has been a lifelong pursuit.
