Wayne Schirner has been a Texas Master Gardener in Bell County since 2015 and he has completed advanced training in vegetable gardening, irrigation efficiency, and composting. Wayne follows the Square Foot Gardening method and is a SFG Certified Instructor. That method uses compost as the sole source of nutrients in the vegetable garden, so he is particularly interested in the production of quality compost. In this presentation, Wayne will discuss a variety of composting methods that a home gardener can utilize. However, since hot composting is the method that produces stable compost in the shortest amount of time, this program will focus on that method. It is estimated that 10% of home gardeners actively practice composting and 10% are in situations that make it difficult to do composting. The other 80% would like to do some form of composting, but think it is too complicated. Learn how easy it is to start composting. Compost happens!

Grow with Us is a series of online sessions from the Dallas Public Library - Seed Library and Dallas Environmental Quality and Sustainability hosting expert speakers to share practical, informative, and inspirational information about growing and urban agriculture in Dallas.
